Jokkmokk Winter market

A sparkling white journey to Jokkmokk Winter Market, ICEHOTEL and other selected winter gems.

Join us for an eventful winter trip on Inlandsbanan to visit the legendary Jokkmokk Winter Market, in 2020 held for the 415th time. This is a time when the Sámi cultural heritage takes centre stage with a rich program of events. Listen to lectures and see slide shows, enjoy music concerts, see the famous reindeer caravan, the reindeer race and huskies pulling sleds on frozen Lake Talvatis. This is the package for discerning travelers wishing to experience Arctic Sweden during the winter, with other highlights such as the Northern Lights, and a full-day excursion to the world’s first ice hotel, Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. You will pass the Arctic Circle several times during the trip.

The trip on Inlandsbanan from Östersund to the arctic north is an adventure in itself, with mighty views and stops along the way to enjoy lunch and dinner at local restaurants.

Day 1 Tue 4 Feb | Arrival day Östersund

Individual arrival to Östersund, also known as "The Winter City". Individual arrival to the hotel which is beautifully situated on Frösön with great views over lake Storsjön and the mountains. Take a walk in the surroundings, maybe along the shore or on the ice, if it's a good winter. The hotel has a very nice Spa with many pools and saunas which you as guests can visit to an additional fee. In the evening we will get together for a meet and greet at the hotel.  We recommend you an early night as the adventure up North starts in the early hours following morning.

Day 2 Wed 5 Feb | Inlandsbanan to Kåbdalis

Having enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel, the time has come for you to take the transfer bus to the railway station, where you board the train for the Inlandsbanan tour. After travelling through the Jämtland countryside, past picturesque small railway stations, we eventually enter the county of Lapland. In Vilhelmina we stop and enjoy lunch with a view over snow-covered Lake Volgsjön. We get on the train again and next stop is Arvidsjaur, where dinner is served. The last stop for the evening is the ski-resort Kåbdalis, which will be our base-camp for the following days. Our luggage is picked up at the station for transportation to the chalets while we take a short walk to the chalets. Overnight stay in shared apartment in ski chalets, including breakfast.

Day 3 Thu 6 Feb | Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi

Today we get a true winter experience! A whole day’s visit at world famous Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. Today we will travel by bus. The tour includes a lunch buffet served at the Icehotel restaurant, a heated building close to the Icehotel, known for its excellent, local kitchen. After lunch we will have a guided tour of the Icehotel, the ice church and, of course, the Icebar. Everything here is built from snow and ice! Also time for individual excursions and shopping before the return journey to Kåbdalis. We will make a stop in Jokkmokk on the way back where we celebrate the Sami national day with dinner in a tentipi.

Day 4 Fri 7 Feb | The Sami heritage in Jokkmokk

The Inlandsbanan train to Jokkmokk departs in the morning from Kåbdalis. After arrival in Jokkmokk, the day includes a visit to Jokkmokk's Tenn (pewter/tin) where we will have a guided tour. The rest of the day will be free time to explore the town on your own. There are a number of exhibitions, slide shows, concerts as well as shopping for handicraft or local produced food in Jokkmokk. In the evening we return to Kåbdalis where the restaurant is open for individual dinner.

Day 5 Sat 8 Feb | Jokkmokk winter market

After breakfast we return north to Jokkmokk, before arrival we make a short stop at the Arctic Circle. Today we will visit Ájtte- Swedish mountain and Sami museum. After the museum it’s time for lunch at Ája, in the same building as Ájtte. The afternoon is free for your own activities. Don’t miss the traditional reindeer caravan with the family Kuhmunen. Another activity is the reindeer race at lake Talvatis, a lifetime experience.  In the evening we return for the last night in Kåbdalis.

Day 6 Sun 9 Feb | Inlandsbanan to Östersund

Inlandsbanan departs in the morning after breakfast southbound towards Sorsele where we are having lunch. The journey continues through the winter landscape towards Dorotea, where we will stop for farewell dinner. Here we will have time to summarize the trip together and say goodbye to newly found friends before the last leg of our journey. The trip takes about two hours back to Östersund where we will have the last overnight stay at centrally situated Clarion Hotel Grand.

Day 7 Mon 10 Feb | Returning home

The package tour ends after a nice breakfast at the hotel. We recommend you to explore the Winter park by lake Storsjön before you head home. The return journey home must be booked individually but we will of course be pleased to help you with connecting trains or extra nights at the hotel, just let us know at the time of booking the package tour.

We reserve the right to make changes.
