Programme

Day 1 - Mora

You make your own travel arrangements to Mora and your package tour begins with an overnight stay. Depending on when you arrive you can experience Mora’s rich culture heritage and you can for example visit the Zorn museum, Zorngården or the Vasa Race museum. Or why not take a swim in Lake Siljan?

Day 2 - Inlandsbanan Mora - Östersund

Today you will take your seat on the train for the first stage of your journey with Inlandsbanan. Storstupet and Helvetesfallet are two old timber floating sites where the train will slow down to enable you to view nature in action. The day ends in Östersund. Perhaps you might be tempted to take a walk along Lake Storsjön?

Day 3 - Summer city Östersund

Look forward to a whole day of new experiences in Östersund. Stroll up to Jamtli History Land to meet people and see places from many different periods (entry included in package). The Storsjöhyttan glassworks is within walking distance down by the marina for small pleasure craft. On a clear day we recommend visiting Arctura, the highest restaurant in Östersund, with view for miles around over mountains, lakes and forests.

Day 4 - Mittbanan and meråkerbanen Östersund - Trondheim

Today’s journey will take you into Norway via such well-known ski resorts as Åre and Storlien. If you arrive on the morning train to Trondheim you will have time to explore the fantastic Nidarosdomen, the Cathedral of Trondheim. If you decide to travel on the afternoon train you will have more time to explore Östersund.

Day 5 - Nordlandsbanen Trondheim - Bodø

In the morning you will climb on board Nordlandsbanen, which runs from Trondheim in the south to Bodø in the north. On this beautiful train journey you will be able to experience the magnificent natural landscape of northern Norway, with its lakes and mountains. The route has been said to be one of the most beautiful train journeys in Europe. Before you arrive at your final destination Bodø, in the evening, you will have crossed the Arctic Circle for the first time on this trip.

Day 6 - Bus Bodø - Narvik

Today you can choose between taking either the morning or afternoon bus (scheduled bus service) from Bodø up to Narvik. The bus trip takes you across small mountain passes, through pretty villages, along fjords and through tunnels. A 25 minute ferry ride will take you across Tysfjorden – with mountain tops all around.

Day 7 - Ofotbanen and Malmbanan Narvik - Gällivare

At midday, the journey continues back into Sweden on Ofotbanen and Malmbanan. On the Norwegian side of the border the train travels along the mountain slopes with a spectacular view across the fjords. After crossing the national border to Sweden, you reach Abisko National Park and the beautiful Lapporten valley, before arriving in Gällivare late in the afternoon. In the evening there will be a guided tour in Gällivare where you will experience stunning views, learn about the history of Gällivare and also might catch the midnight sun.

Day 8 - Inlandsbanan Gällivare - Arvidsjaur

Today you will travel on Inlandsbanan to Arvidsjaur. You will cross the Arctic Circle once more. The natural landscape in Sweden is completely different from the one you encountered on your journey north – here it is characterized more by bogs, lakes and forest. There is time to visit the Navvy Museum in Moskosel. If you visit Arvidsjaur on a Friday or Saturday you have the chance to buy a ticket on the steam train expedition.

Day 9 - Inlandsbanan Arvidsjaur - Östersund

If you didn’t get the time to visit Lappstaden the day before you have time before the train departs at lunchtime. At the first short stop in Sorsele you can visit the Inlandsbanan Museum. During the trip through inland Sweden our train hosts will tell you about the different places we pass on the journey, and we will make stops for meals.

Day 10 - Östersund - Mora

After breakfast the train will depart towards Mora, the final destination of this journey.
